One can never take one’s identity from one. One exists for a purpose. Liberals believe life has no purpose, but life has a purpose, and life’s purpose is to go forward and to confront that which is before you. And what is before us is cultural dispossession, unless we’re prepared to do something about it. What we can do about it will depend upon the circumstances, but what we can do is to remain loyal to our own sense of identity, to our own sense of becoming, to our own sense of what we may be in the future. Most people are truly afraid. They’re afraid to open their own mouths in relation to any of these issues. We must not fear.
